Guys, start thinking about what your impression will be if you are intending to go to Wedderburn next year.

The scenario is Crete, so you will need either Continental FJ (not tropical) or Gebirgjaeger if you are going as German, or if you are going as Allied, Australian/British or New Zealand is suitable.

Okay guys. As you all ought to recall, we were all very excited about doing Wedderburn again this year, especially as the proposal was to do Crete, which is right in our chosen period, the site was perfect for it, and this would allow us to get those Aussie and Fallschirmjager impressions out and take them out for a spin! Seriously, we talked up big to CHS at the end of last years event, and I think that we need to make a big effort to attend this years event and show CHS, and others that we are a serious club.

I sent the below e-mail to the CHS List to start the ball rolling in getting this event up and running.

"Hi all,

I just wanted to discuss Wedderburn for this year. As you all know attendance was low last year, but that didn't stop those of us who came over from SA from having a great time. (Special thanks to Tony & our cooks for some damn fine rations!)

It was proposed that the event occur again this year and that the theme be the German landings in Crete. Now this really got the SA boys excited, as we are focussed on this period and these sort of campaigns. There were suggestions that:

- the fallschirmjager be driven blind folded and dropped off in ones and twos to simulate dispersal from the drop.
- that they only have small arms/pistols, etc, & limited ammo, until they could reach supply cannisters, same for rations.Reaching supply cannisters would be a big day 1 objective!
- that Commonwealth Forces would be equipped with some vehicles, a general idea of where the fallschirmjager landed, and then do their level best to wipe them out on day 1, and prevent them reaching supply cannister, heavy weapons, etc.
- that day 2 see a better organised Fallschimjager force go over to a serious attack to seize an "airfield" and drive off the Commonwealth defenders.

There were also some other great ideas bandied around, not all of which I recall. There was definate interest in getting some other clubs involved, and getting some vehicles involved. Especially Commonwealth vehicles, but on day 2 perhaps a few motor bikes, etc for the Axis?

Reenact-SA was very keen on this event, and I am hopeful that we could get a better turn out than last year if CHS wants to hold the event this year. Can I get some sort of gauge on interest, perparedness, and so forth from CHS members? Also what was the proposed date?

Cheers,"

Yes I remember posting about it. Here is my post on the CHS forum about FJ and the event this year. Some of our new guys may not have seen it?

I have recieved a reply from Tony Miller, who advised me to e-mail Stephen Haynes, who apparrently arranged things with the farmer last year. This has been duly done, and I now await follow up. Will advise when I hear something.

CHS List has been making comments about it going forward in mid September. I gather that the property owner has confirmed that he is happy for an event to be held there this year.

This is an event that Reenact-SA has committed to. I continue to await further info on the event, though I gather that they plan to go ahead with the Crete theme, as we were so keen on it.

Yep, it's Crete, and in September (provisional date of 12th-13th).

The bad news for Craig is that the Kreta Cuff Title is now a bit harder to obtain than the original idea of just attending a Crete themed event.

No :) Nothing like that.

We originally toyed with the idea of a Kreta cuff title being given if you went to a Crete themed event, but the whole club decided that this would open the door to all sorts of claims for campaign awards and such, so it was decided not to approve the Kreta cuff title.

We only have the Afrika Korps cuff title approved now and no others are currently approved for wear at this point. We can look at it again later if it is bought up again and see if we will allow any other cuff titles.
