Subject: Fwd: [QLHF] History Alive - Date Change

Hi all,

As some you may have heard, the Committee was confronted with a problem pretty much straight after the AGM. The traditional date for History Alive (being the June long
weekend) is also the date for the Queensland 150th Anniversary celebrations. While we
were aware of the celebrations, the full extent of activities for that weekend were only
recently published. There will be over 200 events being conducted over the June
Long weekend in conjunction with Q150, some of which are in the Wynnum area. Obviously competing with this many well advertised events would be a mistake and hence we began to search for alternative dates. What initially seemed to be a simple problem has become a
drama.

Firstly, Fort Lytton has been put on hold by the Queensland Government as a venue during August, September & October (and possibly November) due to a pending project.

We cannot go earlier due to the need to get advertising in place and we also need to
ensure that we remain at least two weeks away from the Q150 celebrations and The Abbey Tournament in July to avoid both group booking conflicts and allows effective
advertising time after each event. Additionally, the Fort is already booked on other
weekends in June and early July. When all things have been considered this has left the
weekend of

25th & 26th July, 2009

as the only viable alternative and we received official go ahead from Fort Lytton this
morning for this date.

We are hyper aware that this date is only two weeks after Abbey and that approximately a quarter of our members are involved up there. Unfortunately, circumstances being wha t they are, we have had to make this choice. On the up side, the Abbey have agreed to
assist us in promoting History Alive and given that HA it is only two weeks after Abbey,
this is a major plus for us. I would personally like to thank the Abbey in this regard
as I believe this will contribute greatly to the success of HA09.

Now that we have the go ahead for the date, we will be organising colour flyers and
posters to be printed. We should have these available by the end of next week and we
will get these to the groups to assist in promoting the event in the week following.

Regards

Terry Fitzsimmons - President QLHF
