i've compiled a list of common Wehrmacht Paint Codes: (you can get these mixed at the hardware by telling them the RAL number)

Field Grey (Feldgrau) - RAL 6006
standard wehrmacht green

Dark "Panzer" Grey (Dunkelgrau) - RAL 7021
early war armour

Ivory (Elfenbein) RAL 1001 or 1002
(For inside of vehicles and used to paint afrika korps helmets and equipment in the field)

Dark Yellow (Dunkelgelb) RAL 7028
vehicle colour replacing panzergrau

Olive Green (Olivgrün) RAL 6003
used for camo on Dunkelgrau or Dunkelgelb (depending on era and theatre)

Red Brown (Rotbraun) RAL 8012
used as primer from vehicle and equipment

Red Brown (Rotbraun) RAL 8017
different from above, used for 1943-45 camo

Grey White (Grauweiss) RAL 9002
tactical markings and numbers


FOR AFRIKA:

Yellow Brown (Gelbbraun) RAL 8000
DAK vehicle background colour(field applied, brush or spray)

used to make camo patterns on Gelbbraun

Andy, do you have any pics of Camo painted DAK helmets? Ive looked everywhere online and cant find any... Ive painted one of my stalnhems up sand, but it looks plain...me want it to look sexual!

Cool pics!! Any camo ones??? I havent found any camo piccies of helmets anywhere...only WW1 ones! Eeep!!! Awesome pics though Andy! I was hoping to see some pics of the hand painted camo they did to break up the helmet outline a little more...similar to what you did on your DAK helmet...

My DAK helmet wasn't camo, it just had big reddish brown splotches to represent rust and dirt. There where no Camo helmets in North Africa so to speak, just plain yellow/sand colour.

Aaaaaaaaaahhhh...THAT would explain why I couldnt find any pics! I was thinking I was losing the plot! (moreso than normal anyhoo!) Thanks Andy...that just saved me countless hours scouring the net looking! *phews* I can do rust and dirt...easy peasy.

Tea is supposed to be really good at making bandages look old. Feild grey helmets were very common in Africa though so if you can't get the desired effect and don't want to paint the Helmet, leaving it green is very acceptable.
