Just a reminder - Pattern 3 jump smocks (button-up rather than step-in) are for very late 1943, 1944 or 1945 impressions only.

edit: I'll have to eat my words. Mmm yumm yumm.

According to Chris Mason's book on the FJ, the open leg smocks (Type 3) started to appear around about the time of Crete, when the first splinter camouflage smocks started to appear. Modifying the step-in smock (Type 2) to the open leg pattern was a common field modification.

Good point Brad. Alway a good idea to get earlier gear which is ok for later periods rather than get something late war ;)

10 or 12 hole black Doc Marten boots are fine. Only problem is the soles are rubber not leather. It depends on how accurate you want to be. It would be nice if everybody had leather soles but rubber soles are safer to run around in.

Yup...rubber sole is good...I still went A-O-T in the field at Steve's house with Rubber soled boots...hate to have thought what wouldve happened in leather soled booties.

Yes, I was skating around the grass at Wedderburn in my DAK boots.
I would rather look slightly incorrect than have a sprained ankle.
Also some vehicle owners have heart attacks when they see hobnailed soldiers wanting to scratch their lovely vehicle paintwork...

I agree Brad....why risk injury just for something that could make for better comfort and look 98% correct anyway?

The Fallschirmjager Y-straps are not the same as the regular army ones, they are classed sometimes as "cavalry" Y-straps. They dont have the extra two straps to attach to a backpack or A-frame. You just need 2 d-ring belt loops to attach them to your belt. Im not actually sure about the LW FJ wearing an assault A-frame. That's Brad & Dan's department. Hope that helps.

you'll use it for Tropical. not for continental over the jump smock....but Brad can clear that up.
