The objective of the Reserve Forces Day is to raise the profile of the Navy, Army and Air Force Reserve, to recognise former and serving Reservists, including those who served in the Citizen's Military Forces (CMF), and Citizen's Air Force (CAF) and to thank partners and employers for their support.

In 2009 it will be 70 years since the commencement of World War II. Special recognition will be given at Reserve Forces Day celebrations to those men and women who served part time in the Royal Australian Navy Reserve, the Citizens' Military Forces and the Citizens' Air Force prior to World War II.

Many went on to fight in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Battle for Australia in the Pacific. Some returned to Australia and continued to serve in the Defence force after 1945.

The Adelaide parade will be on Sunday 5 July 2009.

For more information contact Barrie Newman; telephone: 08 8362 1167; mobile: 0407 792 220.

For information updates or to register your intention to parade visit www.rfd.org.au

I am 100% in agreement.

I'll give Barrie Newman a call and see what (if any) place or group can play in this.

In 2008 there were several re-enacting groups involved, including Barossa Light Horse and South Australian Bushmen's Artillery. Given our growing 2nd AIF element, are we going to have any involvement this year or in the future?

I've talked to Barry and he is sending us out info which I'll have by the next meeting.

But yes, we are welcomed to put on a static 2/48 Australian Display. Apparently there will be no march by or firing this year though.

Dear Andy,

re: Reserve Forces Day on Sun 5 July. We are pleased to allow you to erect your own tent and to have a static display on that Day.

As soon as I receive the layout plan from Ray Carn, which will show the areas allotted to each organisation, I will email it to you.

You will see that all tents need to be erected by 11.00am and the displays ready for the commencement at 12 Noon.

If you have any queries, please direct them to Ray Carn of Carn Byrne & Assoc,Tel 8373 0081.

Regards,
Barrie Newman

RESERVE FORCES DAY – A FAMILY DAY THIS YEAR

This year is the 70th Anniversary of the commencement of World War 2, in which so many of our Navy, Army and Air Force Reservists served.

To celebrate this important milestone it has been decided that, in keeping with the objective of Reserve Forces Day to raise the profile of the Navy, Army and Air Force Reserve Forces, to recognise former and serving Reservists and to thank their partners and employers for their support, a Family Day will be held at Keswick Barracks, Keswick on Sunday 5 July 2009.

This is the first time that families have been specifically targeted and recognised on Reserve Forces Day (in the past they have always been welcome to attend) and it is hoped that many serving Reservists will use this as an opportunity to bring their families along to be involved in the Day and to be specially thanked for their support to our Reservists.

The function will be located at the Army Museum compound near the entrance to Keswick Barracks and will run from 12 noon to 3.00pm. Barbequed sausages and hamburgers will be provided FREE to all those who attend and FREE admission will be given to everyone to visit the highly acclaimed Army Museum. Bar facilities and refreshments will be available at the 48 Bty 105 Club nearby and at the 43 Cadet Unit tent to be located within the compound.

We are also honoured, this year, to have Keith Payne VC, OAM, to join us at our Family Day function. Keith, who was originally a member of a CMF Unit in North Queensland before joining the Regular Army, has many stories to tell and will also be able to sign copies of his book, “Payne VC”, which will be available for purchase on the Day.

Unit Association displays will also be erected around the compound and it is expected that Service bands will play during the afternoon. Other items of interest are also being planned.

Please support our Reservists, past and present, by attending Reserve Forces Day 2009.

I have done some checking and 48 field Battery is open during the day. The “105 club” (unit club/bar) is open 1200 to 1500. I will see if I can give you guys a tour of the battery when we get some spare time. I have a place (locked strong room) you could put your 303’s also if need be. Should be able to get some photo's of the 25 pounder out the front.
