I got my original Wehrmacht Krad brille today!! :o  :) :D

They is damn awesome!!! Im going to repair and refurbish them so that I can wear them. I paid 37.00 Euro for them...which is pretty darn good I reckon! They were listed on feeBay and I got them cheaper than I thought I was going to have to pay for them. But Im suitably happy!
I also got my repro Dienst Brille too! and the last thing to complete my FJ outfit...my early war lined brown leather gloves! Wedderburn here I come! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Nice gloves, I like the look of you kitted with the rifle for a change. What's wrong with the Krad brille?

Not sure if anyone remembers, but at the first Fort Glanville event I was wearing a pretty crappy pair of k98 pouches and the D-ring ripped right out during warm-up? Well I took the pair to a local shoe place and he replaced the loop that holds the D-ring, re-riveted the internal dividers and replaced all the worn pocket straps with identical pebbled leather for $20! Now they're perfect reenacting pouches.

The Krad Brille are all rusted, one of the lenses is broken (they are real glass) and the rubber seals around the edges are all cracked and worn, not to mention the original elastic has seen better days...not bad for something nearly 70 years old.... but Ive taken them apart, Im getting some rust gear (rust converter) that has been suggested by a key cutting friend of mine (he said NOT to use CLR) and I'll replace the elastic (easy peasy) and the glass I'll replace with a thin sheet of bendable perspex, the rubber for around the edges should be replacable as well, if not, I'll try and re-stitch them on, but they are just about broken. I was going to leave them as they are, but I dont fancy the lense breaking whilst Im running around with them on...glass in the eye doesnt turn me on! Once they are done, they will look 100% better than they do now.

I got some from work dude, but thanks. They fit nicely. The rust converter worked and has cleaned them up nicely, but most of the rust was so old it "pitted" the metal. Im thinking of spraying the metal a plain grey, the only problem is getting the rubber seals for the eye pieces, Ive got clear tubing which I can use, but I might need to pay a visit to Clarke Rubber to see what they have that I could possibly use. If not, I can paint the clear tubing and stitch that onto them. Alles gute! :D

Here's some more pics of the progress....after much scrubbing and cleaning, the rust was removed. It left lots of black staining where the original rust was, but I have re-painted them giving them a nice mid-grey finish. Im waiting for that layer to dry then I'll varnish them with a matt varnish. MmmmKrad-Brilleygoodness!
