Members,

Here is the proposed scenario for our first event at Fort Glanville. Only one scenario this time around. We hope to get into the Fort at around 10am, to set up a camp site and go through some safety and equipment checks.

For the scenario below, we will need:

Minimum of 4 Aussie/Commonwealth troops. Ideally, 5. (I'm hoping the members, Andy, Dave S, Chris and Mike will all be available for Aussies, but more would be good)
Aussie Mortar.
Aussie Radio Truck and Driver (optional).
Sandbags (as many as possible)
other defensive items such as Tank Traps, fake barbed wire, other barriers, etc.
Prop Mine makers (either Allied or Axis).
North Africa Road sign posts.

Mixture of Axis troops (DAK, FJ, Italian). Ideally Gruppe strenght (10), inclusive one Sanitater. (Please indicate asap if you can fill one of these spots)
Smoke Grenades.
Prop Bloodied Bandages for Sanitater
Blanks. 8mm, 7.62 and .303 (also some Italian 6.5mm, I think it is, blanks).
German Motorcycle and Sidecar (optional, but desirable ;)
Stretcher.

If you can supply any of the above items it would be much appreciated (let me know what you can supply). I also need to know who can come, and what is your intended impression. ASAP. We can loan a few FJ, DAK or possibly Aussie impressions if you only have Continental (or no uniform at all yet). Please contact asap for a loaner uniform so we can fit your size. I can supply the Sanitater gear for either DAK or Fallschirmjager. Ideally, a non gun licensed member would be good to fill this role.

Guest/Associate Members are welcome to attend in an observation capacity only, but would be most welcome to help with setting up duties, Load speaker announcing over the PA, etc. Remember, if you aren't a financial member, you are a Guest/Associate Member.

Please read the proposed scenario below.

Standard for all scenarios

Designated firing areas/movement parameters pegged out
Follow safe firing practice as outlined in Safety document.
1st aid resources positioned/accessible
water/firefighting point
nominated safety person-to give safety brief before event
weapons checks before and after battle
misfires that wont clear, member to ‘die heroically’
pick up spent rounds/rubbish
dates/times of actions documented and any issues recorded. A daily event log to be kept. (on site/off site, firing times who is present and signed off)
Worksafe SA to be advised if not already done so under the Fort’s preparations.
Licenses to be carried
Voice over PA system announcing and explaining theatre/dates/units
Any participant can stop event at any time by yelling "STOP, STOP, STOP". Event organiser from RSA can stop event at any time by three long blasts of a whistle. All activity must stop immediately on hearing "Stop" or the whistle.

Announcers read script (which we will supply) while Allied and Axis groups do fall in and inspection and weapons check.

Fort Glanville scenario 1

Tobruk siege 1941

German DAK, Italian and FJ

Australian 2/48 KD or wool

Other Commonwealth Forces. ie British 8th Army, Kiwis.

Fort Glanville will represent the fortress or outlying ring pillboxes and be occupied by the 2/48. DAK units will assault the position using flares for cover on a still day. Sandbag emplacements to be set up for weapons and fighting pits in the main arena. These will have the flares directed at them. Flares to be thrown against lawned strip.

Duration 30 mins

German Forces are probing the Tobruk outer defenses and have found a gap in the Minefields and barbed wire. Allied sentry on parapet observe enemy approaching/probing allied defenses and NCO calls stand to. Mortar members race down into ammo bunker and run out with ammo boxes and place next to weapon. Meanwhile Aussie NCO climbs up to sentry .Mortar fire is directed onto advancing enemy with no effect (same type of script as at Military Veh open day) [optional] Nearby Aussie Radio Truck operator, runs to truck and goes through the motions of calling for reinforcements [will depend on availability of vehicle]

Attacking Germans form from the schutzenkette into couples to enter gate and take covering positions where suitable and direct fire at weapons pits to suppress enemy. During the advance, the NCO and sentry take up position in arena. Left or right flank advance under covering fire using flare grenades and take out 1 pit. Remaining pit/s create sufficient casualties for Germans to retreat. Medic providing care and applying bloodied bandages to head or arms. Wounded to be nominated and cry out for the Sanitater. Cease fire is called by Allies while wounded treated. And walking Germans while firing, withdraw from the main arena.

Once Germans have made it back to their start point end of battle. Allows for bloodied Axis forces to walk dejectedly back, carrying their wounded past the crowd in bloody bandages etc

Germans come back in Allied position for Safety/weapons check.

I've got Holidays from work before and after the event. I should be able to tee up a trailer to get the bags there and back.

Awesome! Im filling the bags today, finishing off the guard hut facade for my 40th and a bunch of other assorted tidbits. Got my Russian Commie flag the other day - not that Im a commie! ha-ha!! So I have a heap of nation flags to fly at the party... would it be bad form to errect a flagpole out the front of my house to fly the swastika flag? Hmmm, no need for an answer there folks, even I know thats a pretty dumb idea...besides, its been done! And there's no prize for second place.

I have a Soviet Naval Ensign. It's post war, but I don't think that it was any different to the WW2 one. You can borrow it at Wetting the Head if you like.

What a day its been! I got delivery of the 2 cubic metres of pine chips today...at 8am! I had fully intended to get it all bagged and stacked by 1200...but other online matters kept me from breaking my back by hand.
Image
After laying down a tarp out the front of my house (I dont have the luxury of a driveway) the guy tipped the pine chips onto it for me. I also dont own a wheelbarrow either, so I shovelled the pinechips into my greens wheelie bin and took it all out the back (it was about 10 trips) and I moved half a tonne of bits of tree. I is strong. after dumping it all in the middle of my backyard I started to fill the bags. It took me 50 minutes to move it from the front of the house to the back of the house.
I have 100 bags in total. 65 of them are actual sandbags, the other 35 are slightly larger sacks that are printed with some oyster business on them. I havent yet counted how many sandbags are left empty, but I would estimate about 30. So I used 2 cubic metres of pine chips to fill what I now have:

So I now have some sandbaggy goodness.... Im gonna set them up in my backyard and play war with my cat! :P

After a small nana nap (Im old, I need them!) I set up the sandbags and did a quick count of remaining empties. I have 41 empty sandbags remaining. A total of 59 got filled. I shouldve got 3 cubic metres of pine chips.... but as it is Im forfeiting food this week so that I could fill them.
If anyone would like to "chip" in with more pine chips to fill the rest that would be awesome. (Plus Im keeping these for the club anyway).

Im sure theyre not set up correctly, but they look pretty darn cool.... I might do a little photo shoot tonight including flags, uniform and camo netting.....

You have the Civilian/State Flag. I have a few Naval Ensigns left as well as some fleet and submarine pennants.

Ahhhhh....I have the state Communist Party Flag then. Alongside the other nation flags it will do the trick for the party...the 40th that is, not any political party as such..heh-heh...thanks for that! :)
