Yes...I know only too well what it is like to be "pulled up" on my impressions. It is costly enough to do this hobby as it is, but it does help if we get it right the first time around. Now that Ive been part of the group for some time I have come to look at some of my earlier attempts of uniforms with disdain...*eugh!*

I'd like to commend Dan & Brad on their work with authenticity. It's not easy to tell folks that their gear is farby, and to suggest that alternate gear needs purchase.

They are helping to keep us close to a reasonable level of historical accuracy. That's why I was hurting at the Fort event with Doug being given a post war helmet and modern clothing to wear. Next time round we must make sure that everyone has purchased appropriate gear, or is loaned appropriate gear.

Doubly important for public shows, as we don't want to look like a bunch of farbs! :)

Just be careful in this thread guys ;) I can see the potential for this to go down an ugly path. It's easy to be critical but make sure your own kit is 100% before you do. We all have room for improvement one way or an other.

It doesn't matter what you wear, it's if you are open to suggestions, and actively seek to improve your kit that sets you apart from being a Farb.

Farbs are those who know their kit is wrong, but don't care and have no intention of improving it.

Andy.

No, I wouldn't call you a Farb Craig :) Speaking of which, what size boots do you take? I've found an excellent pair of German officers boots in about a size 8 1/2. Probably too small for you, but they are nice (cheap too).

Exactly! No-one I've met in Re-enact SA is a farb, and no-one is absolutely spot-on. We can all improve what we have and how we do things and that is part of the challenge.

Im a size 9-10 depending on the shoe...Damn! I'd like the idea of some real leather boots for officer impressions, the rubber boots are farby farby farb farb...heh-heh!!! Yeah, as I mentioned before, I look at some of my early attempts and then it was all about how "cool" they looked, now its about how authentic they look. But, as expensive as this hobby is, I love it, no matter the cost. As Ive slowly (or some extreme cases - quickly) put my newer uniforms together I try and research them as much as possible. Of course I have Dan, Brad and Andy to fall back on with info as well, being that they are more in the know than I, but thats what this is all about. As Brad has put it, "we could all improve on what we have and that is part of the challenge" it is very true, for I have seen some shocking attempts (including some of my own) at uniforms online. But I also know that puting even just one impression together is a costly lengthy exercise and can take some more than others more time due to money commitments. We have the "1 year" rule in place for people new to the club, which is a great idea, I try and strive for 3 months for me, just cos I have no patience! ha-ha!!

Ha-ha!! That dalek is the best representation Ive ever seen...how could anyone say its farby?? Sheesh! Do these intergalactic morons have no imagination???? Back in "my day" when we couldnt afford such luxuries as the kids of today can, I used to run around with sticks in the best shape of a gun and go "bang-bang"....I tell ya, imagination just isnt what it used to be! Nothing...and I mean nothing was a scary as being at the Premier screening of Generations surrounded by computer geeks and "Trekies" who know not what a shower or washing machine is. The smell of unwashed bodies, crusty dry semen and clothes was so overpowering it made my eyes water. And its also funny to watch the movie "Trekies" and see the absolute stitch nazism come out in full force. One guy complaining after having a tunic made that the cuff bands were a little too big and were a little too high up on the sleeve....what that kid needs is a good slapping and a dose of reality check. It was from that moment on I decided that "that" crowd were a bunch of total losers. Its no wonder William Shatner told them all to "GET A LIFE!!!" Gah!

Craig, people who starve themselves are Hardcores. People who sleep in a ditch with no camping gear are Super Hardcores! Read Confederates in the Attic for some insights from an ACW perspective.

Personally, when it comes to my sleeping arrangements, I'm a farb. Air mattress and warm sleeping bag are a must for me! Too old and fat to do this hardcore nonsense!

See Trekkies 2 to see how that kid turned out as an adult. For further Trekkies info, see Andy and I who have both been memebers of the United Federation of Planets, the SA Trekkie Club (at different times though).

I think we generally do pretty well on the farby front, and we do have to recall that we are Living Historians doing an impression, rather than real soldiers!

Ja...exactly. I was going to watch Trekkies 2, but that kid scared me! not to mention that Lawyer who went to court in Starfleet uniform.... I still have my Next Gen Captain's tunic still....I made a damn good Picard when I greyed my bald head.

I plan on taking some "comforts" with me to Penola...even though I plan to sleep in a ditch, my little sleeping bag will be there under my WW2 italian blanky...heh-heh!! So I guess Im semi-hardcore... heh-heh...

You think thats scary? When I worked at Myer a lifetime ago, we used to have staff christmas parties...most of em were themed until management lost its sense of humour. The theme for this particular party was Arabian Bazzare. Well, a bunch of us took the Bizzare part and we went as the Bridge Crew from the Enterprise D. It was an awesome night, being that I was the only one in red...chicks were crawling all over me! ha-ha!! But suffice it to say, we won 1st prize for best dressed!!!
We walked in while the store manager was giving his speech....he then said when he saw us; "Im not even going to try and compete with that!!" Ha-ha!!

Resistance is futile.....number one!
