Olive Green Field Cap M40 tropical cap with Green soutache.
Tunic M40 tropical tunic. Tropical Breast eagle, collar tabs, & shoulderboards (Green piping).

Olive Green straight leg Tropical Trousers, or early war breaches (the ones that look like jodpurs). Shorts are only worn in the back lines (only buy if you have long trousers first). Continental Reed Green HBT trousers are not acceptable.

Shirt- 2 pocketed pullover style 4 button tropical shirt reproduction or French tropical shirt.

Socks- Grey, brown, or olive green.

Boots- Long style (8 hole, 9 hook) canvas tropical boots. Short style canvas tropical boots, or Continental ankle boots.

Web Belt & Buckle. Buckle (painted olive green or mustard).

Bayonet K98 Bayonet & either leather or (preferably) web Frog.

Ammo Pouches K98 pouches. You will need two. Either brown or black.

Feldflasche- Either Tropical issue (wood covered) or Continental. Cover is feldgrau or olive. Metal cup painted black, Olive, or tan. Strap can be tropical webbing or leather.

Gas Mask Container, either green or tan coloured. Spanish cans are not acceptable.

Bread Bag- Original, Repro, or early East German (button closures, not stud.). Olive, gray or tan OK.

Mess Kit Green, Feldgrau or Tan (original or post war).

Y-Straps- Web preferred but leather was worn. Original or repro.

Shovel & Carrier- Folding or straight. leather cover only (Black or Brown), no Webbing carriers for Afrika.

Optional-

Zeltbahn (Shelter Quarter/Pancho) Original or repro Splinter A pattern or tan. The splinter zeltbahn was much more widely issued than the tan.

Helmet M35 or M40, left decal (the army eagle) only. Sand/Mustard in colour preferred, but feldgrau OK.

Pith Helmet Original or Correct patterned Repro (Check with Club before purchasing).

Fork/Spoon Original folding one piece set, or officer issued three piece knife/fork/spoon set OK.

A-Frame- Canvas/Web Harness attached to Y straps to hold battlepack and zeltbahn.

Gloves Grey or green wool.

Greatcoat- Dyed brown.

Goggles Original German or British goggles. Very handy.

Actually web shovel carriers did exist in North Africa despite some authors saying they didn't.
I have seen one that the providence was unquestioned.
They appear to have been locally made in Africa not imported from Europe, so perhaps that's where the confusion lies.

Yes, The web carries made in Africa were field made items usually cut up from Zelt or Breadbag material and bit's of web strapping after the leather ones, that were issued, fell apart. There were no mass produced web carriers in Africa.

I suggest they were very *rare and in keeping with common reenacting ideology (of potraying the common soldier), shouldn't be used. *Supported by photographic evidence.


Nothing like the ones made later in the war for Europe, so yes, that's where the confusion arises.
