Surely it would be easier to buy one in kit form or import it ready made from intermeccanica (link posted by Brad earlier)? After all, if you are going to start importing motorcycles from China, then why not import reproduction VWs from America? Servicing can be done at home or by a VW workshop.

Alternately, modify a type 182. There are still a few around in Australia, and they really aren't that different, as they say on thesamba.com.

I agree, if you could get a kit, it would be easier in the long run. A friend of mine has found a few places that sells kits. I must ask him for the links to them.

Vlad Lehar in the Czech Republic seems to have everything that you could need to build / rebuild a Kubel.
Or other German vehicles...
